Ensembles

We offer a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles throughout the year for all ages and experience levels.

Vocal

Children's Music
We believe that singing at church is integral to both worship and community for young and old. Further, we believe that kids singing in church is a vital piece of their faith development. Children's Music is a holistic program that incorporates singing and music education into all of our Children's programs. To learn more about Children's Music visit arvadaumc.org/kids
Chancel Choir
This choir is open to all adults as well as youth grades 6-12. This ensemble normally sings at the 10:00 service twice a month, but also provides music at the 8:15 am service and other special services a few times a year.  This ensemble also makes up a large part of our Cantata Choir. No previous singing or music experience is required to join this choir. This choir works on sacred choral anthems from classical, spiritual, and contemporary lyrical genres. This choir is conducted by Timothy Kennedy, AUMC’s Director of Music and Worship Arts.
Cantata Choir
Cantata Choir is open to any youth or adults who would like to sing in services for special occasions or holidays.  This choir is made up of members of the Chancel Choir as well as people who are unable to commit to singing year-round, but really enjoy singing during special seasons of the church year like Easter or Christmas.  A separate rehearsal calendar is offered for these singers.  Let us know that you want to be on the e-mail list for this group and we will send you information about upcoming rehearsals.
The Gospel Gagas
This ensemble sings music from the folk, spiritual, and gospel genres.  No experience is necessary to join this group.  This small ensemble sings a few times a year and only rehearses a few times before they sing; thus this is a great ensemble for people who would like to sing in a group but cannot commit to weekly rehearsals.   This group is conducted by our Director of Music and Worship Arts, Tim Kennedy.   Let us know that you want to be on the e-mail list for this group and we will send you information about upcoming rehearsals.
Shabach Ensemble
Shabach is one of the Hebrew words used in the Bible when speaking of praising God with a strong voice. Open to adults and youth 6th grade and above, this ensemble usually leads worship service music with contemporary music that utilizes singing, guitar, piano, and drums and both the 8:15 and 10:00 am services about once a month.  Rehearsals are usually on the Sunday  prior to the Sunday that they are singing and some work outside of that rehearsal to prepare is requested utilizing music and recordings that are provided. It is conducted by Timothy Kennedy, AUMC’s Director of Music and Worship Arts. Let us know that you want to be on the e-mail list for this group and we will send you information about upcoming rehearsals.
Summer Singers Intergenerational Choir
This group is a multi-generational choir that is open to all ages and is a little more laid-back than other choirs throughout the year. This choir prepares sacred choral anthems from classical, spiritual, and contemporary lyrical genres to be sung at the 10:00 am services twice a month throughout the summer as well as a couple of 8:15 am services on Sundays in the summer. This ensemble rehearses every Sunday in the summer at 9:00 am, but does not sing in service every Sunday.   Directed by Director of Music and Worship Arts, Timothy Kennedy, this group requires no experience and brings together many different ages to enjoy music together.
Voces Sacris Ensemble
This group open to adults and youth 6th grade and above.  This Ensemble focuses on music written in the medieval, baroque and early classical period as well as some contemporary classical sacred music and will mainly sing a cappella.  Having a knowledge of basic music reading skills is helpful to sing with this group. This small ensemble sings a few times a year and only rehearses 3-4 times before they sing; thus this is a great ensemble for people who would like to sing in a group but cannot commit to weekly rehearsals.   It is conducted by Timothy Kennedy, AUMC’s Director of Music and Worship Arts. Let us know that you want to be on the e-mail list for this group and we will send you information about upcoming rehearsals.

Instrumental

Handbell Ensemble
Our handbell ensemble is made up of a large group of musicians from who range from beginners to experienced ringers. No experience is necessary to join, but a knowledge of music reading is helpful. There is some flexibility in commitment; our members sometimes join rehearsals leading up to a service, then sit the next rehearsal cycle and service out based on availability. We ring varying styles of music, often collaborating with other ensembles for special services like AUMC's Advent Cantata and Easter service.
Instrumenti di Deo
Instrumenti di Deo is an instrumental ensemble open to players  of all ages who play all kinds of instruments.  Players need to have basic knowledge of their instrument and have an instrument available for rehearsals, services, and performances. This group often plays on 5th Sundays and/or the last Sundays of the month.  They usually rehearse 1-2 times before they play. Directed by AUMC’s Keyboardist, Dan Nebel,  Instrumental Ensemble is a fun way to keep your instrumental skills going while sharing your talents with the church! Ask to be placed on the e-mail list for this group and we will send
Christmas Orchestra
Dust off your musical instruments and join the Holiday Orchestra as they rehearse for the Candlelight Service each year that takes place on the Sunday Evening before Christmas Eve.  Rehearsals usually take place on the Sunday afternoons and evenings during the season of Lent.  This ensemble is conducted by long-time member and founder of the Christmas Orchestra, Pattie Nelson.  Let us know that you want to be on the e-mail list for this group and we will send you information about upcoming rehearsals.
La Camerata Recorder Ensemble
This volunteer recorder ensemble plays for enjoyment. Past performances have been at UMW Special Teas, in nursing homes, hospitals, The Rocky Mountain Recorder Festival, and church services. They give instruction to anyone who wants to learn to play the recorder. Rehearsals are every Friday from 9:30am-11:30am in the AUMC Chapel.

Community Ensembles

Arvada United Methodist Church is proud to host rehearsals and performances for exceptional community ensembles. Currently, we provide rehearsal and performance spaces for The Arvada Chorale and JeffCo Community Bands. We encourage you to explore their pages for their upcoming performances.
