Birth Place
I was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri in Southeast MO between the Ozarks and the Missouri Delta.
Family Information
My husband Jon and I have four grown children, two families in the Denver area, one in Los Angeles and one overseas stationed in Okinawa. We have seven grandchildren. Our one non-biological daughter is ethnic Chinese. We raised our children on a 6-generation livestock farm in Southwest Iowa.
Education
I have a BS in Music Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia and 30+ hours from Northwest Missouri State University.
Experience
My first music job was organist and choir director on an Army base in Schwabisch Gmuend, Germany. Jon was in the US Army.
I've taught vocal and instrumental music K-12, but mostly 6-12 vocal. I spent 38 years as choir director, organist, pianist at the United Christian/Presbyterian Church of Bedford, Iowa. I taught private voice and piano after retiring from public school. I worked in community theatre as keyboardist and music director in Denver before I became so involved in church music at AUMC.
What do you do at AUMC?
I am Director of Music for the 7:45 worship service. I founded and direct the Good Morning Choir and play for the early service. I also direct the Children's Choir here at AUMC. I also schedule special music for the 7:45 service.
What do you like most about being part of the AUMC team?
Without a doubt I enjoy the staff here and the musicians I work with, both young and older.
What outside interests or hobbies do you have?
I enjoy our grandchildren most of all (4 live close by). I enjoy my job as Marketing Director for and singing with the Colorado Chorale. In Iowa, I loved gardening. In Colorado, container gardening is all I do. I love our dog, Hattie May, snow, and writing.
