AUMC Baptism Philosophy and Practice
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is a joyous time for families and for our congregation. It is the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith that occurs within the nurturing community of the church.

The United Methodist Church offers baptism for all ages. When an infant or child is baptized, the family and the congregation agree to support the child as he/she grows up learning the stories and traditions of the Christian faith. At the appropriate time, the child will make his or her own decision to belong to the church in the ritual called confirmation. When a youth or adult is baptized, the congregation offers the same support of their journey as we grow in our faith together. More can be read about the theology of baptism on the United Methodist Church website: umc.org.

Our tradition includes asking a question of the adult/family regarding their commitment to the Christian faith. We then put a small amount of water on the head of the one being baptized. The congregation then offers a response affirming the journey of the newly baptized and offers their support. We usually take children out into the congregation to welcome them, with the parent's permission (and sometimes assistance).

When you are ready to have your child baptized or be baptized yourself, please call the church at (303) 421-5135. One of our ministers will discuss with you what is entailed in the sacrament and arrange an appropriate Sunday. We do baptisms at both the 8:00 and the 10:00 worship services.
