AUMC Outreach
As a church, we believe that we need to be in the world working at addressing emergency situations and the needs of people but also work on rectifying the underlying causes for different problems which exist. UMC supports numerous local, national, and global agencies and efforts through regular donations, special offerings and volunteer work. We are involved in various efforts to help people with emergency relief, food, and housing. We provide space for many different community organizations in our work to help our community and our constituents make Arvada a better place to live and thrive. We are especially proud of our English as a Second Language Program which has helped hundreds of people from around the world learn English and become citizens. In addition to the aforementioned projects, we hold an Alternative Gift Market annually which supports over 35 different local, national and global mission projects.

AUMC and our members support many different local charities in the Arvada and Denver Metro areas including three different foodbanks, Habitat for Humanity, Denver Urban Ministries, Urban Peak – A Teen Shelter, Senior Resource Center, Jeffco Action Center, Family Tree, and the Colorado Council for the Homeless just to name a few. The church provides office space for the Arvada Resource for Ministry Services volunteer office which provides Emergency Assistance to numerous people in the Arvada area.
AUMC for the past several years has planned and carried out Intergenerational Mission Trips to different parts of the country, including Dulac, Louisiana; Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Blackfoot Reservation in Montana. For 2012, we plan to travel to Washington DC and work with the Quaker House on various issues.
With an eye to the wider world, AUMC has supported efforts by the United Methodist Church through the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and have held events to provide nets to stop the spread of malaria in Africa through our Nothing But Nets fund raisers. We support a United Methodist Board of Global Ministries Missionary, Nan McCurdy, doing mission work with single women and teenagers in Nicaragua. Also, we’ve assisted in providing fresh water to people in Kenya, and helped build and maintain over twenty schools in Madagascar through our support of Peace Corp volunteers. Each year we hold an Alternative Gifts market in December which provides financial support to over 30 different organizations around the world helping people in need.
